Adolescence and laser eye surgery

If your child has just turned 18 and is interested in laser eye surgery to eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses, then this information is for you:

Most of the deficiencies of vision (nearsightedness and farsightedness) are related to the size of the eyes. That is, if an eye that is a bit bigger than normal it is called myopia (blurred vision at a distance but up close) to the contrary; an eye with hyperopia (blurred vision at distance and near) will have a length shorter than a normal eye.

When an adolescent is detected with any of these problems of vision (myopia or hyperopia) the amount of change each year graduation as the child develops (i.e. increase in myopia and hyperopia growth will decline with it).
Laser Eye Surgery for the correction of these visual impairments, is carried out after 18 years, provided the prescription is stable.

To find out if your child is an ideal candidate, it requires a complete eye examination, which includes:

  1. Determination of the exact amount of graduation
  2. Corneal pachymetry (corneal thickness)
  3. Pupil Diameter
  4. Review of eye fundus (retina)

If your child is using soft contact lenses, he or she stop their use 3 days prior to ophthalmologic evaluation.
